LightfootTM Facts

What it the LightfootTM?
The LightfootTM is a 11,000lb rubber tracked machine which can be fitted with different implements.  The LightfootTM is used in forest restoration and fuels reduction projects.

What is unique about the LightfootTM?
The LightfootTM has more horsepower (102) and more auxiliary hydraulic capacity (40 GPM @ 3000psi) than any other machine in its size class.  As a result, the machine is highly efficient in the felling and harvesting of small diameter trees and the mastication of large brush.  No other machine in its size class comes close to its ability to treat hazardous fuels in the forest.

Why is the LightfootTM a better choice than "Heavy Iron"?
It makes no sense to use a large piece of machinery to pickup and handle, or masticate small diameter material in the forest.  The LightfootTM's rubber tracks and low ground pressure allow it to do a more effective job with virtually no soil compaction, site disturbance, or residual stand damage.

What does it cost to use the LightfootTM?
Any where from $200-$600 per acre depending upon the size and amount of material to remove.

Why is soil compaction important?
Soil compaction significantly reduces the productivity of forest soils.  Multiple passes with heavy equipment can quickly compact the soil, which can take many years to recover.  Soil compaction is exponentially related to ground pressure - i.e. a machine with half as much ground pressure can make four times as many passes over the same piece of ground.

Does the use of the LightfootTM contribute to the spread of noxious weeds?
The LightfootTM is always power washed on site or at a car wash facility to eliminate the possibility of spreading noxious weeds between sites.
