EXPERIENCE SUMMARY
Mr. Knapp has more than 40 years of professional experience. For the
past 7 years, he has worked as a consultant in forestry and
arboriculture. His clients have included USDA Forest Service, USDI
Bureau of Land Management*, Oregon Parks and Recreation
Department, Vancouver Parks and Recreation Department, 5 cities, Port
of Portland, Oregon Department of Transportation, and a wide variety of
individuals, homeowners associations, and land development companies in
the private sector. He has represented clients as an expert witness.
Prior to entering the private consulting arena, he completed a full
career with the USDA Forest Service, retiring as Regional
Silviculturist for the Pacific Northwest Region. Mr. Knapp holds
certifications as a silviculturist (USDA Forest Service), forester
(Society of American Foresters - SAF), and arborist (International
Society of Arboriculture). He is a Qualified Watershed Analyst under
the auspices of Washington State Department of Natural Resources. He is
past national chairman of the SAF Silviculture Working Group, and also
a member of the American Society of Consulting Arborists. In 1997, he
served on a statewide advisory committee with the Oregon Department of
Forestry to develop guidelines for forestry practices within Urban
Growth Boundaries.
Mr. Knapp served as silviculturist/ vegetation specialist on several
watershed analysis teams, including Lost Creek (Eugene District, BLM);
Lower Siuslaw and Sand Lake (Siuslaw National Forest); Deep Creek
(Colville National Forest); Deer Creek (Malheur National Forest); and
Bear Valley (Boise National Forest). As a part of the watershed
analysis process, he developed treatment opportunities and priorities.
