Forest Management - Reforestation
Project: Elk City Reforestation Design Client: Coast Range Landowner Date: 2009 Services Provided: IRM developed a site plan for the site preparation and reforestation of 40acres of cutover forestland.
Project: Seal Rock Planting Client: EENW Date: February 2007 Services Provided: After the 2006 regeneration harvest, IRM was responsible for the re-establishment of the 12-acre unit. Due to a vigorous understory of salal, both mechanical and chemical vegetation control methods were used. The relatively gentle topography allowed for use of IRM’s Lightfoot ® mastication machine. This rid the site of woody competing plants without compacting sensitive planting sites. The planting prescription included a strategic mix of Western red cedar, Western hemlock, and sitka spruce. These species were chosen with careful attention to the proximity of the unit to the Pacific Ocean, the presence of Swiss needle cast inoculums, and historical forest types. IRM is also conducting annual regeneration surveys to follow the stand to a free-to-grow state.
Project: EENW Reforestation and Swiss Needlecast species conversion Client: EENW Dates: Winter 2005 Services Provided: Integrated Resource Management completed design and implementation of reforestation on 75 acres of harvested forestland near Newport, Oregon. The unit was site prep sprayed, and a multiple species planting including western redcedar, Sitka spruce, western hemlock, and red alder was completed in Winter of 2005. On an additional 10 acres, heavily Swiss Needlecast infected Douglas-fir were harvested and resistant spruce and hemlock were retained. The site was underplanted with cedar and spruce and will be managed as a two-aged stand.
Project: Carnine Property Reforestation Client: Doug and Linda Carnine Dates: February 2005 Services Provided: Integrated Resource Management completed a reforestation using western redcedar on 10 acres within an existing clearcut recently purchased by the client. The land was originally planted to Douglas-fir by the previous landowner, though regeneration failed due to poor site preparation. IRM developed a plan to diversify species composition while controlling noxious weeds that included the spraying and mowing of weedy vegetation, followed by interplanting with cedar and valley pine.
Project: Cooke Property Reforestation Client: Cooke Family Dates: Fall 2001, Winter 2002 Services Provided: Integrated Resource Management completed site preparation and planning on 14 acres of abandoned and degraded pastureland in Yamhill County. Treatments included spraying of noxious vegetation followed by mowing of woody vegetation with Lightfoot and sowing acorns. An additional 20 acres of pasture were site prep sprayed and planted to valley pine.
