Siuslaw Multi-Party Monitoring Contract
|
IRM recently completed the fiscal year 2009 (FY09) Multi-Party Monitoring Contract for Cascade Pacific RC&D. The culmination of the project is the FY09 Multi-Party Monitoring Report, which documents and analyzes the biophysical accomplishments, economic impacts and stewardship monitoring that was conducted on the Siuslaw National Forest (SNF) and non-federal properties. These projects are funded with funds generated through stewardship timber sale contracts, with a process called stewardship contracting. Stewardship contracting is a method for federal agencies to contribute to the growth of sustainable rural communities, restore and maintain healthy forest ecosystems, while providing a continuing source of local income and employment.
This project consisted of four major components:
- Stewardship Projects Tracking: Collect, analyze and organize stewardship data pertaining to economic, biophysical accomplishments and stewardship monitoring in a Microsoft Access database.
- Monitoring Data Collection: Write a customized data collection program and manual for stand exam data collection. Install and re-measure both pre and post-harvest photo point and stand exam plots in stewardship timber sales.
- Stewardship Group Field Trips: Develop agenda and lead stewardship group field trips.
- Multi-Party Monitoring Report: Write a Multi-Party Monitoring Report, which details the economic impact of stewardship contracting including jobs created, average wages, and State taxes paid, etc. In addition, the report summarizes all stewardship activities completed in the fiscal year.
