Community Collaboration Leads to Environmental Restoration
On March 29th and 30th, Integrated Resource Management assisted the Greenbelt Land Trust in their second annual riparian planting project with Calapooia Middle School.
Over the course of the two day project, nearly 250 6th grade students from Calapooia Middle School planted close to 500 native trees and shrubs, including Oregon white oak, valley pine, serviceberry, and cascara. The project took place on a 200 acre conservation easement managed by the Greenbelt Land Trust on farmland owned by Ed Rust outside of Albany, OR.
Volunteers and staff from the Greenbelt Land Trust, Institute for Applied Ecology, Calapooia Middle School, Integrated Resource Management and Anderson Construction helped the Calapooia Middle School students plant the trees and shrubs, provided education of native ecosystems and assisted in project planning.
The 2011 planting project was a huge success and Integrated Resource Management hopes to continue our partnership with the local community for years to come.
