Forest Carbon

Forestry Sector Carbon  Offset Services

IMG_20121212_124125IRM provides a service to clients interested in listing Greenhouse Gas reduction and carbon-offset projects.  A carbon offset represents a reduction in emissions somewhere else – like a renewable energy or a reforestation project – to balance out the emissions that cannot be reduced.

Carbon Sequestration is the process through which agricultural and forestry practices remove carbon (CO2) from the atmosphere.  Carbon sequestration has been proposed as a way to mitigate the accumulation of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere released by the burning of fossil fuels.  California law AB32, the Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006, instituted mandatory policies that address global climate change through carbon sequestration.

2013-02-16_16-29-33_518The IRM Team can provide carbon sequestration services through similar methodologies to forest inventory and stand exam procedures.  IRM is highly experienced in forest growth and yield modeling, calculating biomass for carbon offset yields, and utilizing proprietary growth and yield model interfaces.

IMG_20121127_080522IRM is currently involved with a 100,000 carbon offset project for a large industrial land owner in Mendocino County.

IRM can provide the following services:

• Inventory design
• Data collection programming
• GIS
• Mobile GIS using ArcPad
• Data collection on carbon inventory plots
• Check Cruising

IRM is equipped to provide custom services for a variety of carbon projects.  Please contact Marc Barnes, marc [at] irmforestry [dot] com or 541 929-3408.
